Volcan Poas = crap

After arriving back in San Jose on Tuesday, we had a couple of days to kill while waiting for our tickets to Argentina to arrive via FedEx. Deciding that San Jose has simply nothing left to offer, we decided to go on a day trip to Volcan Poas, because Tyler whined like a girl until I agreed to go see another volcano (ok, I wanted to see it too, but everything to come is still somehow Ty's fault).

Poas is an active volcano located a mere 2 hour bus ride north of San Jose. We boarded a bus at 8:30 and rode up through some pretty bus-plunge territory to the national park where the volcano is currently housed. This fact is somewhat unsubstantiated by us at the moment, seeing as the whole park was located inside of a cloud, and we could see exactly nothing of any volcanic crater or anything much else. Plus, this cloud was very wet and absurdly cold, and all three of us had made the poor decision to wear sandals, leaving our feet wet and numb in virtually no time at all. After a short hike through what was admittedly a cool little dwarf cloud forest, we holed up in the cafeteria and ate lunch, followed by the largest piece of chocolate cake ever, topped off with coffee and tea. At 2:30, our bus (which is the only bus), left the park with us on it, only to watch the entire sky clear in literally seconds, just as our bus left the parking lot.

Poas is now renamed in our particular dialect as Po-Ass, and will remain so until it somehow redeems itself, which won't be possible considering I am never going back. The whole day cost something in the range of 15$ a person, and was worth approximately zilch. But hey, at least we got some good laughs out of it, and the shivering wetness made us somewhat appreciative of the hot beaches.
